Descriptive literature review of the added value of virtual realities in vocational education and training
2020
Tarkastelemme tässä katsaus artikkelissa virtuaalitodellisuusteknologian (VR) hyödyntämistä ammattikasvatuksen kentällä viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana. Tavoitteenamme on selvittää, minkälaista empiiristä tutkimusta aiheesta on tehty ja minkälaista lisäarvoa VR tuottaa ammattikasvatukselle 13 tutkimusartikkelin perusteella. Tulosten perusteella tutkimus VR:n hyödyntämisestä ammattikasvatuksessa on yhtäältä lisääntynyt, mutta toisaalta empiirisiä tuloksia on vielä suhteellisen vähän. Tutkimus on toistaiseksi keskittynyt käyttökokemuksiin erilaisia VR-sovelluksia hyödynnettäessä. Havaitsemamme lisäarvo liittyy erityisesti reaalimaailman rajoitusten ylittämiseen ja erilaisten oppimisprosessie…
CYBERBULLYING AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES AN EDUCATIONAL PROJECT FOR EMOTIONAL ORIENTATION AND CYBERBULLYING PREVENTION
2019
Cyberbullying as a new form of bullying demands new coping strategies. As a result of new technology there has been a constant growth in the spread of harmful online behavior. The instant project “Cyberbullying and new technology”, which started from cooperation between school and university, was planned for pupils in the third year at “Leonardo Da Vinci” secondary school in Palermo. The project was started and carried out within the school setting with a focus on students, parents and teachers. Objectives: the main aim was to identify useful actions and precautions to help face cyberbullying (on smartphone and mobile applications) using technology to create a campaign of peer to peer sensi…
Cyberbullismo e nuove tecnologie
2019
Interactive Learning Environments (ILEs) as Effective Tools for Teaching Social Sciences
2016
Schoolteachers could enhance learning in social science courses by using teaching tools that favour a methodological approach focused on the topics' basic structure rather than on facts. An innovative system dynamics social-based ILE built with a social constructivist approach is presented here. The pedagogical futures of this ILE are then analysed. The effective impact of different instructional approaches inspired by social-based ILEs on student learning outcomes is also discussed. The ILE and the related inquiry-based instructional approach seem to help students understand fundamental concepts more easily, thus making the topic more comprehensible and helping students place the social fa…
Sunny Island. An Interactive Learning Environment to Promote Systems Thinking Education for Primary School Students
2017
To make the process of learning easier for students, schoolteachers are increasingly using Interactive Learning Environments (ILEs) in classrooms. The paper presents a system dynamics-based ILE called Sunny Island. The ILE has been designed to promote Systems Thinking (ST) education for primary school students. Through a funny fantasy tale - described in detail in a book that accompanies the ILE - students have the opportunity to discover and become familiar with the basic principles of ST, such as feedback, positive and negative causal influences, limits to growth, short and long term effects, counterintuitive behaviors, causes of policy resistances and dynamic complexity. The proposed ILE…
Social sensitivity:a manifesto for CSCL research
2021
International audience; Technologies for computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) are playing an increasingly prominent role in educational contexts, especially as teachers and students strive to deal with pandemic-related constraints. However, the technologies being used for collaboration on a daily basis are not sufficiently equipped to promote collaborative learning as both a cognitive and a socio-emotional process. They may even run the risk of hindering the constructive exchange of ideas and provoking disputes and negative encounters. In this squib, we argue that the field of CSCL is failing to address this risk, because our research efforts are far too scattered and siloed. We…
